A candidate in the 2010 Haiti presidential election, Mr. Jude Celestin was the candidate for the political party UNITE, a political party created by President Rene Preval.

Celestin was born on June 19, 1962 in Port-au-Prince. His mother was fromGrand-Gosier and his father, Jacmel.

The selection of Jude Celestin over Jacques-Edouard Alexis was a surprise to many. Rene Preval and Jacques-Edouard Alexis were inseparable political allies. Alexis was the point man for Preval during his campaign. He became his Prime Minister and a close advisor at the beginning of the Preval administration. No one so far was able make out why Rene Preval selected Jude Celestin over Jacques-Edouard Alexis to become the candidate for his UNITE party.

Jude Celestin was new to Haitian politics in 2010. A leader of the National Equipment Center, he was identified not so much as a politician but rather as a technocrat. His work with the National Equipment Center which is the primary state construction company provided him with visibility during the rescue phase of the Haiti earthquake.

The candidacy of Jude Celestin was hurt by its association with Rene Preval whom many criticized for not providing adequate leadership during the 2010 earthquake.

It was reported that Jude Celestin was convicted in the United States for bank fraud. As an account manager at Fleet's South Shore Plaza branch, Celestin used his Unique Operator Identification Number to improperly access customer accounts. According to the report that immediately Celestin accessed the accounts counterfeit checks were been cashed against these accounts.

Celestin was charged with conspiracy to commit bank fraud. However he appealed the conviction on several grounds. He complained that his due process rights were violated by the government's failure to turn over evidence prior to the trial. 

There were also rumors circulating around the candidacy of Jude Celestin related to financial difficulties with real estate properties owned in Florida.
