The chaos around the nomination of a Prime Minister for Haiti is over, at least for now.
On Tuesday, October 5, 2011, the Senate approved president's nominee, Dr. Garry Conille to be the next Prime Minister for the country.
The Haitian Senators voted 17-3 with nine abstentions for Dr. Garry Conille. The main debate over his ratification was around residency that represented a problem to many of the Senators. The debate lasted over six hours before the final vote.
The two previous Prime Ministers nominated by the Martelly government were rejected by Haitian lawmakers, which prevented the fully functioning of the government since taking office in May.
Shouldn't we question the effectiveness of our government? While we have many people suffering with cholera, military occupation, food problem, security; in the meantime, our two branches of government are negotiating. Will there be another crisis soon? Will the new Prime Minister, Dr. Garry Conille, be hit with a vote of No Confidence soon?
Is anybody home? !!!!!!!
Now What's next?
Prime Ministers Garry Conille needs to present a government plan to both houses of parliament.
Haiti is showing good sign that it wants to govern itself differently than in the past. The country is receiving technical support from the Club de Madrid, an internationally well known organization.
