Former two time Prime Minister of Haiti, Mr. Jacques-Edouard Alexis was a candidate in the 2010 Haiti election for president. He was registered under the political Party Mobilization for the Progress of Haiti (MPH), led by Sami Mourra, a Haitian-American.
Born in the city of Gonaive, Haiti on September 21, 1947, Alexis attended Lycee Geffrard in Gonaive and then Lycee Toussaint Louverture in Port-au-Prince. He was a teaching and research assistant at University Laval in Canada. Alexis is married and have five children.
Under the Preval government, Jacques-Edouard Alexis occupied multiple positions. He was in charge of the Minister of National Education, Youth and Sport, Minister of Culture, and Minister of the Interior and Territorial Communities.
Jacques-Edouard Alexis was the original chosen candidate of the UNITE party but was dropped by Rene Preval in favor of Jude Celestin. Few days before it became official, he claimed that he was the presidential candidate for the "Unite" Party, but it was to the surprise of many that Jude Celestin was chosen instead.
