Besides, tap-Tap which is a common mode of transport, a typical Haitian uses several other ways to move from one vicinity to another, or travel from one city to the next.
Retailers, (or Ti machan’n), merchants at flea markets, farmers transport their goods on “bourette” (wheelbarrow), donkeys/horses, or walk miles and miles carrying huge sacks of legumes or fruits on top of their heads.
Children travel long distances from home to school on foot to go to school twice a day even when some times we could take a cab or tap-tap. Walking was never an issue. It was a daily ordinary and normal obligation. We understand and realize now that it was simply best exercise keeping us well fit, energetic, and healthy.
