Tap-Tap in Haiti, an art form all by itself

advertisement
The main Haitian mean of transportation in Haiti is Tap-Tap . It is a mode of transport with the convenience of stopping frequently anywhere to pick up or drop off passengers with a minimal fixed rate.

The Tap-Tap system of public transport is usually privately owned. They are small colorful pickup trucks called “camionettes” or mini vans. They are also well and artistically decorated with Christian or friendly slogans such as: “Le Bon Berger” (Good shepherd), “les vrais amis sont rares” (good friends are hard to find), “se la vi” (That’s life) etc…

Tap-Tap, converted pick ups are painted in bright colors. Some are more colorful than others. It is the owner’s choice and taste to make it beautiful so the ride may be more pleasant.

Why not enjoying some “compas” music, or “chansonnettes Francaises” French music, or Reggae music while riding?

Some owners invest pretty good money to equip their Tap-Tap with expensive and interesting sound track to really please the customers and provoke competitions.
