Continental flights will leave New Jersey at 9:25 a.m. and arrive in Port-au-Prince at 12:15 p.m. Their return flight will leave Haiti at 1:20 p.m. to arrive at Newark Liberty International Airport at 6:15 p.m.
Continental Airlines plans to start flying to Haiti will provide direct competition to both American Airlines and Spirit Airlines. This is a good news for Haitians and people who fly to Haiti.
Now, the Haitian travelers can finally say: "Ouf", for a lungful of air. Enough is enough with American Airlines taking advantage of Haiti flying public. Just like Spirit Airlines, Continental Airlines has come to our rescue. I just hope this is in fact true; that by entering the Haitian market, Continental Airlines will come to the rescue by charging a more reasonable fees to travel to Haiti.
Traveling from the U.S. to Haiti is relatively a short destination for the airlines; however, sometimes it is cheaper to fly from U.S. to a country in Europe than to Haiti. It would just take you a few seconds to see the price these Airlines charge you to go to Haiti, compared to the rest of the Caribbean.
By the way, except for Cuba and the Bahamas, these destinations are further away from the United States than Haiti if distance was a determining factor. I think it only makes sense to bring other airlines such as Continental Airlines into the market as traveling between Haiti and the U.S. is expected to double in the next five years.
