Just as Michaelle completed her term as Governor General of Canada, she was named UNESCO Speccial envoy to Haiti. She is expected to starte her new position on Monday November 8, 2010.

In acceptin the new position as UNESCO Special Envoy to Haiti, Jean stated:" I accept this important mission invested in me by UNESCO, with a deep belief that there can't be enduring human development in Haiti withour concentrating efforts on sustaining an accessible public education system that offers quality enstruction".

Michaelle Jean who was born in Haiti visited the country when she was Governor General to provide support to the victims of the January earthquake. Her new position as UNESCO Special Envoy to Haiti is a four year mendate and she has for objective to promote UNESCO's objectives in Haiti.
