Despite criticizes from some sectors of the Haitian population, the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission headed by both Former President Bill Clinton and Prime Minister of Haiti, Mr. Jean-Max Bellerive is moving right along with its plan to rebuild Haiti. The commission has a new plan to generate permanent housing and also to create jobs for the population. The new plan is to move about 5,239 Haitian families into their permanent homes and create close to 4,500 jobs.
Haiti Recovery Commission, IHRC, intends to spend an amount not less than $78 million to give a new lease of life to 16 neighborhoods in the Haitian capital that were destroyed by the 2010 earthquake. It is estimated that by the end of the project, 30,000 people from six tent cities will be moved to permanent housing.
The Haitian Government of Haiti with the support of United States and the International community created the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission to ensure the planning and implementation of the recovery efforts following the 2010 earthquake. HRC is co-chaired by the Government of Haiti and Bill Clinton who is the UN Special Envoy to Haiti. The Board of Directors includes voting members from Haiti’s legislative branch, judicial branch, labor and business communities.
