Former Haitian President Farbre-Nicolas Geffrard was born at Anse-a-Veau on September 19, 1806. He was a Haitian mulato soldier. His father, General Nicolas Geffrard participated in Haiti was of independence.
Geffrard has a long and influential military career. He became a Captain of the Haitian army at the age of 37, then, chief under the Soulouque Government.
Not satisfied with the Soulouque government, he was involved in a Coup D' Etat that removes Soulouque from power. Later, he was selected president of Haiti
