Born on July 31, 1936, Boniface Alexandre was named president of Haiti. Prior to become president, he was the Chief Justice of Haiti Supreme Court, appointed in 2002 by president Jean-Bertrand Aristide.
As Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, after the forced departure of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide from office, Boniface was the natural selection for the Haitian Transitional government. He then became president of Haiti on February 29, 2004. His government had the responsibility to organize the next presidential election.
Following his appointment as president of Haiti, Boniface named Gerard Latortue as prime minister. He also requested a multinational force from the United Nation to establish peace and order in the country.
A period of heavy fighting with different local rebel groups follows. Acts of insecurity, assassinations and kidnapping were occurring on a daily basis. The government of Boniface Alexandre was criticized for excessive use of force, unlawful killings and kidnapping by groups of bandits.
