Haiti is moving slowly but surely into the capitalist system, or at least in the financial sector, with the introduction of a Microinsurance program.
Fonkoze, the leading micro financing institution in Haiti is introducing a new product to the people of Haiti. Starting this year, the organization will start offering Microinsurance to its clients.
It is estimated that Fonkoze currently has 50,000 people in Haiti to which they have been providing microloans to. The loans are ranging between $200 and $400 on average.
So far, Fonkoze has been offering there small loans only to Haitian women. They intend to offer the Microinsurance to these same people who have taken loans.
