advertisement
Ayida Wedo is referred to as the spirit of fertility, the spirit of the rainbows and also the spirit of the snakes. Ayida Wedo is the wife or she is the companion of the father figure of all the spirits that we commonly come across during the religious and traditional voodoo practices in Haiti. She can be related to the powers of the sky and rainbow is considered to be a symbol of designating Ayida Wedo. She protects the world and she is considered to be the one who gives us blessings in our life.

Since some time, it is considered that Dumballah the spirit of the snakes have created this universe and all the animals of this world are thought to have originated from the magical powers of the serpent spirit. He utilized his 7000 coils to create this universe, the stars, the planets, the skies.

With his powers the hills, mountains, plains and valleys are thought o have originated on the earth’s surface. He utilized force of the lightning to melt the metals and thus he was able to give the perfect shape to the stony and the rocky surfaces of the earth. He created the waters and when the sun appeared from among the droplets of the mist, the rainbow is thought to have been formed.

Thus Ayida Wedo, the rainbow spirit came into existence and this was the process of how she was born. Dumballah loved Ayida and they married. They are still united even to this day and they are better known as the spirits of the snakes and the rainbow. Dumballah and Ayida together represent human sex.
