Edwidge Danticat is a Haitian American author born in Port-au-Prince in 1969. She came to the US at age 12 when her father emigrated to New York where she and her brother were raised.
Edwidge Danticat has a BA in French Literature from Barnard College and a M.F.A. from Brown University. As a leading voice in Haitian American Literature, she became in 1995 a finalist for the National Book Award for Krik? Krak! (New York, Soho Press). Several of her novels are translated into French.
Her works include: The Farming of bones (Viking/Penguin, 1999), for which she won an Award, the Butterfly’s way: Voices from the Diaspora (New York, Soho Press 2001), and more.
Edwidge Danticat won Prizes and Awards as well. She was chosen as one of “33 Women of the 21st Century” by Harper’s Bazaar in 1995, and “20 Writers for the 21st Century” by The New Yorker in 1999.
