Yole Derose first appeared on the national stage in October 1979, with the introduction of this classic Haitian song "Merci". This particular song with Ansy suddenly brought her international recognition and made her an instant superstar in the heart of most Haitians.
 
 To bring you back to the time when Yole gained her popularity in Haiti, that same year, 1979, the Soviets invaded Afghanistan. It was also the year of the Iran revolution and the capture of the American hostages in Iran.
 
 In the 1970's when Yole Derose was introduced to the national scene, we saw the expansion of the Haitian Kompa into other rhythms. At this time, other Caribbean music bands such as Exile One, Grammacks, Les Eglons and Kassav were being introduced in Haiti with increasing popularity among Haitians. This invasion of other Caribbean music to Haiti would force the Haitian Mini-Jaz bands to go back to the drawing board. The music of Yole and Ansy Derose in the meantime, were those that were being played in all the radio stations in the Haitian Capital or in the provinces, beside this new wave.
 
 During the time that we were enjoying these beautiful songs from Yole and Ansy Derose, Haitian youth also started to experience with the American Disco. Others began to embody in the Samba Movement drawing from the global trends in black power. They celebrate the value of communal living. Some of the Haitian bands and artists who came out of this movement in Haiti include Samba Yo, Azouke and Eddy Francois who eventually gave birth to Mizik Rasin.
 
 Another major trend at the time was the Nouvelle Generation or Digital era of Haitian music, blended Kompa with funk and American music.
 
 Ansy and Yole were able to work together and produced some of the best pieces for over 20 years. Together, they produced more than 70 shows to the public, performing in Haiti, the Caribbean, United States, Canada, France and many other countries.
