Carimi of Richard Cave, Mickael Guirand, and Carlo Vieux

advertisement
Richard Cavé, Mickael Guirand, and Carlo Vieux make up the Kompas band known as Carimi. All three were born in Haiti and became part of the Haitian Diaspora in New York City, ten years back. After an intense period of writing and recording, the band issued their first album, Ayiti Bang, Bang in mid-2001.

The Haitian band’s music centers on Haiti’s political, social, and economic challenges, which have been unceasing in nature. As part of the millennial generation, they have been among the first such bands to raise the consciousness of their country’s people, as well as support the sentiments of Haitian ex-patriates around the globe, with their deep and incisive social commentary, on what ails Haiti.

Carimi has moved to the forefront of the global music scene because of their development of a new digital sound that has taken the Haitian music industry by storm, netting them Best Album of the Year by the global music industry. The band has reached the top of the Billboard charts throughout the Caribbean, Europe, and Canada.

The Haitian music industry says that Carimi may well be the first revolutionary Kompas band to have been embraced by non-Kompas music lovers, and feels Carimi can dominate the global music scene, which would be a first for a Haitian Kompas band.

If Carimi continues to rack up music awards and top the Billboard charts, they will rise to the level of music icons, not only of the Caribbean, but the entire globe
