Michel Martelly gains acquaintances with Haiti‘s governments which creates some mixed feelings and criticism among his fans. He holds and operates a nightclub during the Duvalier’s reign, mostly frequented by military and members of the ruling class.

Criticism and finger pointing never bother Michel Martelly. He would not deny his affiliations with politicians or government officials. Martelly once stated to a news reporter in 1997, “I don’t have to defend myself… it’s my right. It’s my country.  I can fight for whatever I believe in”. He’s not afraid of speaking his mind.

Michel Martelly is a very talented musician who shows through his music positive means.  He would donate his time to participate in “Knowledge is Power” which is an HIV educational music video with a powerful message about preventing the spread of the disease.

Michel Martelly creates and founds “Foundation Rose et Blanc” to help the poor.
