The city of Cap-Haitian has its own history of earthquake.

On May 7, 1842, a major earthquake destroyed the city of Cap-Haitian with other small cities nearby. The cities of Port-de-Paix, Mole St. Nicolas, and Fort Liberte were all affected by the earthquake. In addition, the May 7, 1841 earthquake that shacked the city of Cap-Haitian also inflicted major damages to  the Dominican Republic.

This powerful earthquake also destroyed a major historic landmark in Haiti, the San-Souci Palace. The SAns-Souci Palace was the royal residence of Henri Christophe and his family. It took three years to be built from 1810 to 1813.

Many also reported that The Citadelle was seriously damaged by the quake as well.

We have a picture of the San Souci Palace that was totally destroyed by the May 7, 1842 earthquake when it hit the city of Cap-Haitian. Many people believe that the north part of Haiti is overdue for an earthquake and will likely be the next target.
