The Town of Savanette, Haiti

A municipal town in the Centre department of Haiti, Savanette is located in the Lascahobas Arrondissement.  It is found 18° 41' 0" North of the equator and 72° 3' 0" West of the meridian. Its average elevation is 76 meters above the sea level. It stretches across an area of 201.1 km2, which is occupied by 33,000 inhabitants. It is a third order administrative division. It is made up of two communes called The Hague and Savanette. It is 55 km form Port au Prince.

The hills of Savanette are usually green. A clear river runs down the valley. There is a local swimming spot known as Basin Longe. Its waters are cool and very tempting. The construction of a well in the area has saved the people the hustle of traveling for 2 hours in search of water. The well was built by an NGO called Water 4 a Billion.

The residents of Savanette have benefited from Missions International of America which pays school fees for 300 children in the Brad Reddick School. It is also providing cash for work in a program which is helping in a construction project in the area.

There is a marvelous Catholic Church in the town of Savanette. It stands tall on a good foundation, facing the hills. It serves the spiritual needs of the majority, who are Catholics.

It is common to find natives breaking large rocks to pebbles which are used for construction. They mainly grow coffee. The timber industry is a major employer on the town of Savanette. They also raise livestock.

The town has a modern school and an ancient market. The town enjoys a tropical climate.
