Cuban doctors have been providing health care in Haiti since 1999. Unlike high media publicity given to other foreign contingencies delivering services in Haiti, Cuban medical personnel are rarely mentioned. Cuban medical staff has been the most effective foreign medical team since the cholera outbreak in Haiti. They have treated more than 30,000 cholera cases so far.

In addition to the outstanding level of medical services in Haiti by Cuban doctors, they are also insuring that Haitian doctors are trained to care for their own population. Since 1998, Cuba has opened its medical schools to Haitian doctors free of charge. Since 1998, more than 1,000 Haitian doctors have been trained in Cuba.

The Cuban population is very proud of their medical contribution to the Haitian people.
