Some Bahamians are anxious about the increased Haitian birth rate in the Bahamas. According to Wikileaks, a U.S. diplomatic cable revealed that the the Bahamian government has great concerns over the number of Haitian children being born in Bahamas. The Bahamas and the Turk and Caicos have a population with 45 percent Haitian heritage. The report indicated that approximately 12 percent of those births are from Haitian women.
The report also indicated that at Marsh Harbour clinic, the problem is even larger. In 2003, anywhere from 63 to 76 percent of babies born there were of Haitian mothers. According to Wikileaks, that particular Bahamian district saw at that time a greater number of children born of Haitian mothers than of Bahamian parents
Also in 1993, the birth rate was almost equal at the clinic in Coopers Town. Fifty one percent of the children born there were Bahamian and forty eight, were Haitian.
