The Haitian Revolution made Louisiana purchase possible for United States

advertisement
In 1803, the United States of America purchased Louisiana from France, 828,000 square miles, for the sum of $15,000,000. This purchase was made possible, thank to the Haitian revolution.

Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte had a plan and a vision to expand France control to America. Saint-Domngue, present day Haiti, was the most prosperous of its colonies. The Emperor wanted to secure access to marine traveling routs for his colonies in the Caribbean and also stop the American expansion. He imagined that acquiring the entire state of Louisiana would do just that.

Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte has to give up his plan with the Haitian revolution. A twelve year revolt of the blacks in Saint-Domingue (Haiti). On January 1, 1804, Dessalines declared Haiti a free republic. Haiti was the first independent Nation in Latin -America. This forced the French troops to return to France defeated. The defeat in Haiti gave a blow to French empire and consequently refrained him from pursuing France long term dream to stop the American expansion.
