Independence of Haiti - January 1, 1804

advertisement
We Haitians cannot talk Independence without mentioning the Battle of Vertieres on November 1803. Our proud and brave ancestors fought blood and sweats to give us that superb historic day of January 1, 1804 and once and for all suppress slavery.

Haiti then became the first slave black republic free in the world and second after the USA. On January 1, Haitians no matter where they are, all around the world celebrate and commemorate this day with pride and in a unique way.

Besides being the first day of the year, January First is the Proclamation of Haiti’s Independence. Schools, public administration and political organizations gather in church for “Te Deum” special mass celebrated for Independence Day. Parades and festivities are held everywhere in the country.

The Haitian Flag proudly and gracefully floating high enhances our freedom as Haitians all over the world celebrate Independence of Haiti.
