This is what a real journalist is supposed to be. Our own Jacqueline Charles who has been working for the Miami Herald as their Caribbean Correspondent was named "Journalist of the year".
This prestigious award was given to her by the National Association of Black Journalists or NABJ.
Jacqueline Charles was recognized for her coverage on Haiti. Starting with the earthquake of 2010, with her understanding to the Haitian culture, Charles has been instrumental in bringing the new to the international community in a way that was more effective to many other reporters. Additionally, she was the first to break the new about the Haitian election when even the local Haitian media was still waiting.

Jacqueline Charles of Miami Herald will be honored on August 6 as "Journalist of the year" in Philadelphia at the 36th Annual Convention of the National Association of Black Journalists or NABJ. According to NABJ President, Kathy Y, Charles is committed to the enlightening of the local community and a global audience.
Charles began her career with the Miami Herald in 1986 as a high school intern. Upon completing her degree at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, she returned to the Herald as a full-time journalist.
Jacqueline Charles who is a Haitian-Turks Islander, has been working with the Miami Herald as a Caribbean correspondent, covering Haiti and the English-Speaking Caribbean. Charles began her career with the Miami Herald in 1986 as a high school intern. As Miami Herald Caribbean correspondent, Jacqueline Charles reported on the devastation that took place in the city of Cabaret.
