This statement from Martin Luther King(MLK) is just like he was here living with us today. This is the time Haiti was hit by a natural disaster, an earthquake that took the lives of close to 300,000 people in less than two minutes.
The earthquake in Haiti can not be responsible for all the dead. It is a result of centuries of poverty, neglect, with a population of over 9 million people left in desperate poverty. If Martin Luther king King was present today, he would challenge the living condition in Haiti. He would say: This can happen to America" looking at the devastation caused by Haiti earthquake. Martin Luther King would also state: Richest nation in the world, nothing wrong with that. To help bridge the gap between the have and the have not"
