Affair Barbot as it comes to be known involved Francois Duvalier and Clement Barbot.

According to words of mouth, one year after Francois Duvalier was elected president of Haiti, he was close to becoming victim of a Coup D'Etat. It was reported that in May, 1959, the year after Francois Duvalier became president, he suffered form a massive hearth attack at the National Palace and became unconscious. While recovering, he hand picked Clement Barbot, who was a trusted leader of the Haitian Tonton Macoute to temporarily assume his responsibilities and govern the country.

It is also reported that when Francois was again capable of taking over, he accused Clement Barbot of attempting to remove him form power. Consequently, Barbot was put in jail. Upon release from jail, it was reported that Barbot started a campaign to remove Francois from power.

The attempt was unsuccessful and Barbot was captured and executed by the Haitian Tonton Macoute for plotting a coup against Francois Duvalier.
