The cholera outbreak in Haiti reaches a point where experts believe the only way to control it is by vaccination. As a result, the World Health Organization will start a massive vaccination campaign against cholera in Haiti in April 2011.
The World Health Organization expects to deliver cholera vaccination to about 400,000 Haitians in the first half of 2011. By the end of 2011, they expect to vaccinate close to one million people and significantly reduce the number of people affected by the virus.
The number of infected Haitians soared to 150,000. In the Dominican Republic, there have been 139 cholera cases reported so far.
The first cholera case was reported in Haiti back in October, 2010 following the earthquake that took the life of some 250,000 people. According to Dr. Jordan W. Tappero of the CDC," the cholera outbreak is everywhere in Haiti. The deaths are occurring as rapidly as two hours after people fall ill."
It seems that the cholera outbreak is spreading in Haiti. Recent cases of cholera have been reported in La Gonave, The City of Archaie and Croix-des Bouquet.
