Titanyen meaning little of nothing is located a few miles north of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. It’s a vast empty land reputably known as a dumping ground for political opponents of the Duvalier. It is estimated that tens of thousands of unidentified people are buried in Titanyen.
For most Haitians it is considered a cursed ground. A notorious place of threat for generations: “If you’re bad, you’ll go to Titanyen”. A few people live nearby. It is a place that no one would like to go.
Since after the earthquake on January 12, 2010, Titanyen has become the home for Haiti’s latest victims. Thousands and thousands of anonymous bodies and corpses were dumped in a mass grave, huge pits dug by bulldozers.
Can Titanyen one day become a National Park or a historical point and not just a place of dumping and discarded bodies?
