Haiti has ten Departments and the Department of Centre is one of them.

The Capital is Hinche, the birthplace of Charlemagne Peralte, a Haitian natiolalist who fought the occupation of Haiti by the United States in 1915.

The Department of Centre is structured in three major region called arrondissements and are Cerca la Source, Hinche, lascahobas and Mirebalais. the major cities include Thomassique, Maissade, Belladere, Savanette, Saut-d'Eau and Boucan Carre.

As its name states, this Department of Centre is located in the center of Haiti, bordering the Dominican Republic. With an area of 3,675 square KM, this region of Haiti has an economic significance for the entire country.

One of the largest lakes in Haiti, lake Peligre is located in the Department of Centre. Peligre hydroelectric plan was created in 1956 in this region and has been providing most of the electricity consumed in Haiti.
