The town does not have an airport within its borders. There are two airports that are nearby Marigot. These are the Jacmel Airport an approximate 21 kilometers from this town and the Barbers Point Airport which is about 32 kilometers away. The Toussaint Loverture International airport in the capital, Port au Prince, is located an estimated 36 kilometers from the town of Marigot.
The inhabitants of Marigot practice subsistence farming. They grow coffee and citrus fruits. They also do a bit of pig farming while engaging in fishing along the coast of the Caribbean Sea. During market days held mostly on Fridays the fishermen in Marigot sell their caught prey along the beach. The most common fish are lobsters, pink fresh fish and dried fish among others. The fishing is a vital part of the town’s economy.
The area of Marigot is divided into community sections. These include Corail Soult, Grande Rivière Fesles, Macary, Fond Jean Noël and Savane Dubois.
The beaches around Marigot are as pristine as any other in the Caribbean region but have not been exploited for tourism. The area hasn’t had any clean drinking water since a hurricane destroyed the water supply in 2008 but an aid organization is working to bring these residents water. Previously they had to walk a journey of over 5 kilometers to get water.
