The Group of Haitian Senators, G16 and President Michel Martelly

The president of the Republic learned very quickly that the 16 Haitian Senators who formed the G16 mean business after the rejection of his first two choices for the position of Prime Minister. Daniel Gerard Rouzier and Bernard Gousse were both rejected and the new president was left without a government for his first four Months in office. Senator Evalliere Beauplan explained that he regrets that the Head of State refused to meet them after the regection of his first two Prime Minister Designees.
Finally a breakthrough. President Michel Martelly met with 13 members of the G16 at he residence of former Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive torequest the support of the the Senators for his new choice, Dr. Garry Conille, for the post of Prime Minister. After that meeting, the president received the support of Senator Simon Dieuseul Deras of Centre and many others. Senator Joseph Lambert explained to president Martelly that the objective of the G16 is not to make it impossible for him to govern and that a position sixteen Senators will be made public after the analysis of the Prime minister's documents.
Following the rejection of the previous two candidates for the Position of Prime Minister, a meeting was held with members of the G16 and U.S. diplomats led by Kenneth Merten, U.S. Ambassador to Haiti. A powerful member of the G16, Senator Jean Hector Anacacis who is also Vice-President of the Senate informed the media that the meeting was held in Morne Calvaire, situated east of Port-au-Prince. Ten of the the members of the G16 were absent in that meeting. Senator Jean Hector Anacacis who was not present at the meeting admitted that the Senators of the group G16 can not refuse to meet with the U.S. Ambassador. He also stated that there were no pressure on the part of the U.S. diplomats or recommendations
