advertisement
A call to put in practice the Haitian constitution was heard from the Senator of the Republic, Steven Benoit. He wants the newly amended constitution to be published by the government of Michel Martelly.

As you may remember, the amended Haitian Constitutions was marred with errors and the Martelly government decided to form a special commission to review the text of the newly amended constitution. After the review by the special commission, the amended Haitian Constitutions was returned to the president for publication which has not been done.

Senator Steven Benoit is hoping by exercising some pressure on the government to publish this newly amended Haitian Constitution

Two important aspect of the newly amended constitution:

ARTICLE 12 - 15:
Every Haitian is subject to all rights, duties and obligations attached to their nationality. Multiple nationality is acceptable with the amendment to these articles.

ARTICLE 17.1 and 31.1.1:
The amendments to these articles aim to increase the participation of women in government. They hold the government to have at least 30% of its seats held by women.
