advertisement
Mr. Duly Brutus, the Haitian Minister of Foreign and Religious Affairs will visit Turkey to attain an important meeting of the CARICOM in Istanbul between 12th and 14th May, 2014. He is expected to sign several agreements on improvement of diplomatic cooperation between Haiti and Turkey and promote Turkish investment in Haiti. Mr. Brutus has reminded the media that the recent visit of the Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davuto?lu on an invitation of CARICOM meeting on April 15, 2014, was very successful in resolving several important relationship issues between the two countries. Prime Minister Lamothe and Turkish Minister Davuto?lu both have agreed to develop some key projects within a framework of cooperation and necessary legal structure.

On his short visit to Haiti, Davuto?lu has said that he is ready to encourage Turkish entrepreneurs to invest in Haiti but that should be followed by establishing of a supportive legal framework so that the investors and operators can act with confidence. He attended a workshop with Lamothe and Brutus where he said he is happy to become the first official Turkish representative in Haiti.

On behalf of Turkish President Abdullah Gül, he invited Haitian President Michel Martelly and Prime Minister Lamothe to visit Turkey to explore new potential areas of cooperation other than which have already been identified, like, agriculture, energy, tourism and educational infrastructure. Haiti and Turkey have a long relationship that dates back to 1950. Turkey sent humanitarian aids to the earthquake victims of 2010 and had helped Haiti greatly with huge financial aid of $1 million. One Turkish NGO “Kimse Yok Mu” has recently been collaborating in the construction of a hospital and an international high school which is expected to inaugurate by the end of 2014. Meanwhile, a representation of Haitian parliamentarians, municipal authorities and business executives visited an economic conference organized by the Turkish Confederation of Businessmen and Industrialists (TUSKON) in the Central Anatolian province of Kayseri between April 28 and May1, 2014. The conference brought together several Latin American and Caribbean countries in closed discussion with Turkey on issues of mutual economic interest.
