advertisement
The government of Haiti has taken a crucial step to helping its inhabitants with the institution of a program called Aba Grangou. Mrs. Sophia Martely, the first lady of Haiti, went to Brazil in an official visit to address the issue of food security in Haiti. This visit is meant to help majority of Haitian population.

Those communities and families that live in acute food shortage situations will benefit most as compared to those that live on average food. The program “Bolsa Familia” has helped in addressing the issue of food security in Brazil since the year 2003. It is intended that this program will also work well in Haiti as it did in Brazil.

The official visit of first lady is an implementation of program “Aba Grangou” which was launched by the president of the republic of Haiti to help families which suffered acute food shortages and malnutrition. The first lady had started this initiative even long before the election of president Martely. This program Aba Grangou will help poor communities in the rural areas where more than four million people have been suffering from food shortages.

The first lady was to meet high officials of the government of Brazil to help Haiti in promoting food production. Mrs. Sophia Martely will be accompanied by officers of the world food program. This visit is intended to address short, medium and long term food security issues in Haiti. It is hoped that this visit will bring hope and change in living standards and lifestyle among poor families living in Haiti. With Aba Grangou every member of a family in Haiti will be expected to have balanced diet if this visit will bring success and fruition.
