A night not like any others in Miami. Tabou Combo of "Choubou" head to head with Tropicana D'Haiti of "Ti Blanc". Filled at capacity, Hilton Hotel was ground zero last Saturday for the fight between two giants in the Haitian Kompa music.
On Saturday, April 9th, 2011, the "Bal" organized by radio show host "Ti Lou"
to celebrate the 5th anniversary of "Doux Tropic", was a success.
The event displayed: discipline, organization skill, security, respect to the audience.
As was promised by the Promoter, Tropicana and Tabou Combo performed on separate stage. The stages were located side by side. This was a good idea because idea because this create no delay between transitions between the bands.
The event started on time. By 10:00pm, Tropicana D'Haiti which was scheduled to start the program was on stage and began performing shortly after. After performing four songs, Tropicana handed over the stage to Tabou Combo. The two bands were scheduled to play four songs each turn until 3:00am. Special guesses included Radio Hosts Bob Lemoine, Francois Leger of Cap-Haitian and Camelot Monestime
Sound system for both Tropicana and Tabou Combo was excellent. Except for some minor glitches, the sound system was perfect.
Appearance of the bands was just right. The musicians of Tropicana were in their uniforms, colors blue and white. Tabou Combo did not follow a uniform pattern, however, the musicians presented themselves as cleanly and neatly as the musicians of Tropicana.
The audience was visibly of the older generation of Haitians. The median age is estimated at 50. The people were adequately dressed as well, with close to 50 percent of the men wearing jacket and the women, most with gala dresses. No one dressed with T-shirt, snickers or blue jeans was apparently present.
Seating arrangement, lighting, air and audience participation were just fine at Hilton Hotel for the event. Audience was responsive, to both Tropicana and Tabou Combo. As the music selections from both Tropicana and Tabou were of old hit songs, the audience was on the dance floor the moment the bands start playing.
Security was 100 percent assured. Although the security personnel was in uniform, the event took place with absolutely no incident.
This is a success in every sense of the word for Event Promoter "Ti Lou". The event between Tropicana and Tabou Combo was advertised for a relatively long period of time at $40 to advance purchase of ticket and $45 at the gate. The ballroom where the event took place at the Hilton Hotel had a capacity for 3000 to 4000 people. Conservatively, we estimate that the event organizer sold 3000 tickets for the event. To put it at $40, the rate in advance of the gala, the promoter would bring a total of $120,000.00. Additionally, we estimated that the promoter would make at $10 of profit on each person attending the event, for a total of $30,000.
Estimated total revenue before expanses: $150,000.00
