Is there something to this? after the rejection of the second Prime Minister nominated by president Michel Martelly, many members of the Haitian parliament are coming out, bringing both the Race and the Class issue in Haitian society.
Senator Edwin Zenny stated yesterday: "between President Michel Martelly and a number of members of parliament there is not just a power struggle but a class and color struggle." The Senator who referred to some of the Senators as fools, also declared that he is not responsible for the color of his skin, therefore, can not be blamed for it.
Senator Zenny of the Sud Est Department is a Lebanese descent and himself would be classified as a Mulato. According to the Senator of the Sud Est Department, Senator Moïses Jean-Charles treats him of ‘affranchi’ because of his color. Senator Zenny pointed out that both former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide and Rene Preval married mulatto women.
Recently, there has been a return of resurgence of Race and Class issues between Haitians in Haiti as well as in the Diaspora. This may have been caused by those opposed to Michel Martelly, showing pictures of his inaugural party where most of the people in attendance were of light skin color in a sea of black-skinned Haitians in the country.
It might also have been caused by the rejection of the proposed Prime Minister, Gerard Rouzier, by the Haitian Parliament.
Is this really the time to be divided among ourselves? The only relevant issue should be about his qualification for the job. While in this critical time so called politicians want to separate and create chaos the country needs our help. Pandan nap goumen mulatre/negre etrange we nou pou peuple noir.
this is pure nonsenxe. they should be ashamed of themselves. from my observation I can say most haitians are prejudice. the darkest one talking about the other one being bleu. That color thing is a weapon that stupid politicians to get the attention of the masses because yheir interest may not be with today's reality. Do not be surprised to find out their wifes might be: spanish, canadian mulato or white. Stop the nonsense. Focus on the real issue which is let's get together for a better Haiti. I've heard too many times that they have to marry someone lighter: pou ameliore la race.
