The new Haitian President, Michel Martelly, is promoting his educational plan for Haiti by launching a National Fund for Education.
On May 26, 2011, Michel Martelly unveiled his plan to have 1.5 Haitian children in school by the time he leaves office in five years. He was at Hotel Karibe Convention Center to do the presentation in front of several stakeholders. The president took the opportunity to invite different sectors of the Haitian population to participate in the FNE.
The money that his government will get from Telephone and transfer will be used to finance free education for the poor Haitians families. the government wants to collect US$0.05 on each minute of incoming phone call to Haiti as well as US$1.50 on each transfer to Haiti.
He also promised transparency over the management of the National Fund for Education (FNE). Michel Martelly indicated that the FNE will be manage and verified by independent international firm to provide transparency.
President Michel Martelly expects to collect more than $360 millions over the next five years to reach his goal to have 1.5 Haitian children in school by the time he leaves office in five years.
