Emergency Plan in Effect for Hurricane Tomas in Haiti

Nov
02
2010
Hurricane Tomas has been downgraded to a tropical storm. This probably does not make any difference for Haiti.

The tropical storm Tomas just left the island of St. Lucia, leaving behind at least 5 dead and many more missing. The storm also caused damages in St. Vincent. More than 1,000 people went into shelter, seeking protection against Tomas.

Now as it has taken the direction for Haiti, Tomas is expected to intensify and become a category one or two hurricane before reaching the coasts of Haiti. The tropical storm is currently located at approximately 200 miles south of Les Cayes and Jacmel

What is the response of the Haitian Government in the presence of this upcoming tragedy?

Answer: Remain vigilant

What are the response of the Haitian presidential candidates running for office?

Answer: Vote for me and all your problems will be solved.

In any organized society, this time would be reserved to the implementation of the Emergency Plan for the regions predicted to be affected by Hurricane Tomas. The government would be involved in communicating the locations of all the shelters. Accommodation for special need people would be well in place, including extra medication, emergency food and water, arrangement for people living by themselves, those who are handicapped, etc.

In Haiti, we do things differently. "Nage Pou'n Soti". It was Lily Thomlin who said:" We're in this together, by ourselves"

Questions:

  1. What is the purpose of a government?
  2. What is the purpose of the Haitian government?
  3. Why does the Haitian government exist?
Your opinion counts, please comment
