You may call that an expensive business license to do business in Haiti. The Wall Streets journal reported that US Justice Department charged Telecoms, a Florida company, and its president for bribery. According to the report, the President of Telecoms paying $1.4 million in bribes to officials at Haiti’s state-owned telecommunications firm. The Haitian officials in return for the money, was to give some business advantages to Telecoms over its competitors in regard to telecommunication in Haiti.
For the American business involved in the deal, it will probably cost it more than the $1.4 million already paid to the Haitian Officials. They might even get some time in jail if not lucky.
On the other hand, for the Haitian officials involved in the bribery it is most likely business as usual. Nothing will be required of them; no punishment on site
