Haitian coffee, an attempt by Todd Carmichael to revive the industry

After the Haitian revolution where the country gained its independence from France in 1804, Haiti was isolated from the rest of the world as a punishment. Its products, including coffee, couldn't be traded with the rest of the world until 1830s in Europe and 1960s in the United States.
Now, over two hundred years later, there is a movement to bring Haiti back to a position where it becomes once again a major coffee producer. And the way most coffee experts want to do it is by offering an organic coffee.
Todd Carmichael, CEO & Co-Founder of La Colombe Torrefaction, runs a very successful coffee roasting company. For the past 18 years, he has been pressing the limits of taste to find the world's best coffee. He has toured half the world’s countries.
Todd Carmichael is currently working with some Haitian farmers near Thiottes where the coffee is growing naturally. More interestingly, Carmichael has decided to pay $5.00 a pound for he best of the coffee and between between $3 and $4 a pound for the rest.
Todd Carmichael, La Colombe dealls directly with the coffee growers without a middle man.
This is what the "Haitian Joudalist" would call a corporation with a heart.
