The Haiti Reconstruction Fund or HRF also provide financial support to 70,000 Haitian farmers to purchase seeds to grow new crops.
What is its purpose and why was it created? Pure and simple, The The Haiti Reconstruction Fund (HRF) which was created following the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti is a special fund between the international community and the Haitian government has for purpose to mobilize, coordinate and find contributions from donor countries and individuals and use these funds in a way that to finance and support high priority projects in Haiti.
The Haiti Reconstruction Fund received its first funding on May 11, 2010 after Brazil contributed a total of $55 million to the fund. Several donors pledged to contribute to the fund during the international donor conferences held in Santo Domingo, New York and Dominican republic.
It is also important to note that the Haiti Reconstruction Fund or HRF does not determine reconstruction priorities or implement projects. advise the Haitian Government
Before any plan can be approved, it has to be approved by the Interim Haiti Commission (IHCR). All proposals for funding need to follow these requirements: Be endorsed by the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission (IHRC). Be aligned with the Action Plan (which is a requisite for the IHRC’s endorsement). Have the technical clearance by at least one of the Fund’s partners (UNDP, IDB, WB). And Finance one of the three eligible categories of activities: technical cooperation (including capacity building), investment grants or budget support.
